About Change Notes back to top
Change notes are bug fixes or new features that are associated with a specific version and platform. All imminent planned changes should be recorded in the future releases version so that the application itself will correctly be identified and filtered as 'awaiting-changes'. Like all other text in FooBrain, change notes are UTF-8 encoded so no unicode characters or non-text is allowed.
Bugs Versus Planned Features back to top
When defining change notes, they can be identified as either a bug fix or a new feature. You must fit all change notes into one of these two categories. There is no functional difference between the two beyond the icon and change note filtering.
Adding a Change Note back to top
To create a new change note, type the descriptive text into the change note text area. Indicate whether the new note is a bug fix or a new feature by toggling the 'bug fix/new feature' button
. Accept the change note by tapping the 'add change note' button
or by tapping enter on the input panel. When you add a change note, an identical note is added for each of the platforms checked in the platform filter dropdown
in the upper-right. You can also change note platforms later. If you want to add multi-line or very long notes, create an abbreviated change note and then edit it to add more detailed information.
Editing a Change Note back to top
To edit an existing change note, double-tap it in the change note list. You can switch the bug fix/new feature status by tapping the 'alternate bug fix/new feature' button
. When you edit a change note, it is only edited for the platforms that are checked in the platform filter dropdown
in the upper-right.
Change Note Platforms back to top
When you add a change note, an identical note is added for each of the platforms checked in the platform filter dropdown
in the upper-right. When you select a change note in the change note list, you will see information about it's platforms just above the list. On the left side you will see a count of the number of platforms the note is associated with. In the center you will see the active platform for the change note (affecting moving and deletion). To change the active platform, tap the 'switch platform' button
above the list. If you want to add an identical change note to another platform in the same version, tap the 'add platform' button
to the far left and choose the platform you want to add. Also see deleting change notes.
Deleting Change Notes back to top
To delete a change note you must delete the note for each platform separately. Tap the note to select it in the change note list. Tap the 'switch platform' button
until the platform you want to remove the note from is active, then tap the 'delete change note' button
.
Moving Change Notes to Other Versions back to top
Once you have dealt with a specific issue in your application, update FooBrain by moving the change note to the appropriate version. Most often this will be when you fix a bug or add a feature and need to move the change note from the future releases version to the version that reflects the change. To move the change note, tap it in the change note list and then tap the 'switch platform' button
until the appropriate platform is active. Then tap the 'move change note' button
and choose the appropriate version from the dropdown menu. Only versions associated with the active platform will be available in the menu.
Filtering the Change Note List back to top
You can filter the change note list in several ways. To filter by platform, use the platform filter dropdown
menu in the upper right. To filter by content or by type, tap the 'switch functionality' button
in the upper left. Notice that the functionality icon next to the 'switch functionality' button
switches to indicate that you are working with filtering
rather than change note creation
. To switch back, tap the 'switch functionality' button
again.
To filter the change note list by note type, tap the 'note type filter' button

until it displays the desired type. To filter the list by content, enter text into the filter text area. Any change note having the given text will be displayed. You can also sort the change note list alphabetically by tapping the 'sort' button
.
When you have the list filtered by content or by type, and you switch back to change note creation functionality, note that a red mark will appear in the 'switch functionality' button
to indicate so.
