Importing GPX Files
The way a GPX file gets imported depends on the creator and format of the file. Regular Groundspeak pocket query GPX files will be imported as caches and additional waypoint GPX files will be imported as such. All others will be imported as regular waypoints. To import a GPX file, choose 'Import' from the main menu and then tap 'GPX File'. After the import, Smache will display a report of the number of caches, logs and travelbugs that were imported and updated.
Back to Importing Data
Importing LOC Files
Smache will import LOC files as waypoints. To import a LOC file, choose 'Import' from the main menu and then tap 'LOC File'.

Exporting Visits
In order to transfer your visits to another database, you must first export them to a Visit file. To export your visits, choose 'Export' from the main menu and then tap 'Visits to file'. If you previously imported visits from a visit file, you may have visits that are not attached to a cache present in the database. These unattached visits will still be exported just the same as the attached visits.

Importing Visits
To import a visits file created from another Smache database, choose 'Import' from the main menu and then tap 'Visits File'. Note that Smache cannot tell if a visit is a duplicate, so don't double-up your visit records.

Closing Caches
To clear the cache list without activating a new location, choose 'Close Caches' from the main menu. You do not need to close the caches before you exit or activate a new location, the closing will be done for you.

Creating a New Database
In order to keep databases from becoming too large, or for better organization, you may want to create multiple databases for your caches and waypoints. To create a new database, tap on 'Database' in the main menu and then choose 'New Database'. You will be asked to specify the location, and then the new blank database will be loaded.

Opening an Existing Database
To load an existing database into Smache, tap on 'Database' in the main menu and then choose 'Open Database'.

Cleaning the Database
After a while your Smache database will probably start to become rather large because of numerous caches and logs. By cleaning the database regularly (every couple months or so) you can keep it's size to a minimum as well as keep it running faster and more efficiently. Cleaning the database optionally removes unavailable caches that you have not visited and that you do not own. It also rebuilds the indexes and essentially takes out the trash. To clean your database, be sure to make a backup of the database directory. Then go through the main menu to 'Database' - 'Clean Database'. The process will take several minutes depending on the number of caches and logs you hold.

General Settings
Caching User Name: The name you use to log in at www.geocaching.com. This is used to determine whether you own a cache or not.
Home Coordinates: These are the center coordinates from which distances in the cache list and waypoint list are measured. Choosing 'Set as Center' from a context menu modifies this value.
Delete GPX Files: Option to delete GPX files after importing them into Smache. This only applies with GPX and not with any other importable format.
Max. # of Logs: Number of logs kept per cache upon import. If this number is modified with caches already in the database, it will not affect those logs until the cache is in another GPX import.

Cache List Settings
Days a Cache is Considered New: Caches are considered new if their 'placed' date is less than this many days ago. This allows them to be included in the 'New Caches' special filter as well as being prefixed with "(NEW)" in the cache list.
Days Before a Cache is Stale: If the number of days between the current time and time of the last GPX file a cache was in is greater than this amount, it will be marked as stale in the cache list and cache details. This is a simple indicator that the cache has not been visited for some time and may have been archived.
Max. # of Caches in Recent List: Each time a cache's details are displayed it is moved to the top of the recent list. The recent list can be accessed through filtering in the cache list.
Include Unavailable Caches: Un-checking this box will prevent unavailable caches from showing up in the cache list. You can still view unavailable caches by setting the filter to do so. The count for caches in the locations list always includes unavailable caches.
Items Shown in the Cache List: The checked items in the list show in this order as columns in the cache list. Checking off an item will hide that column. Use the arrows at the right to re-order the items.

Cache Detail Settings
Show Hint Decoded: Checking this box instructs Smache to display the hint in readable form on the details panel. To have the hint display you must have it checked in the item list.
Items Shown on Details Page: Checked items will appear in the cache details panel when a cache is activated. You can not re-arrange detail information.

Waypoint Settings
Default Waypoint Sample Count: This is the default number of sample coordinates used when you average a new waypoint.
Default Track Sample Interval: This is the default number of seconds between sample points when collecting a track.
Cache Waypoint Names: This is the format of the waypoint name used when adding caches to the map.
Show Length in Track Labels: Checking this box instructs Smache to display the length of a track along-side it's name in the label.
Items Shown in Waypoint/Track List: The checked items in the list show in this order as columns in the waypoint list. Checking off an item will hide that column. Use the arrows at the right to re-order the items.

Export Settings
Export Format: Available export formats for both caches and waypoints. Choosing an option in this menu will give you access to properties specific to that export format.
Export Properties: Specify the desired structure for many aspects of all formats. Text in the value fields will be exported exactly as it is written. You can insert cache or waypoint variables by tap-and-holding on the text field, then tapping 'Insert Value' and choosing the variable you would like to use. The variable names must be in brackets to be recognized.

If your GPS connects through a port other than COM, tap the radio button next to 'Other' and then specify the port name in the text field to the right.
GPS Baud Rate: Specify the baud rate of your GPS receiver. Refer to your GPS receiver documentation.
